Ravago Manufacturing’s plastic recycling facility visit

The Packaging Partnership Programme (PPP) organised a visit to Ravago Manufacturing’s plastic recycling facility on 9th Feb 2023. With the limited slots available, representatives from 11 PPP member companies joined this tour.

Ravago Manufacturing provided an overview of its operations, and shared that a total of 46% of total plastic recycled in Singapore was handled by their two plants located at Tuas and Lim Chu Kang. During the interactive session, participants were able to ask various questions about the recycling landscape in Singapore. On the topic of biodegradable plastics, Ravago explained that these were not necessarily beneficial in the local context as most plastic waste in Singapore was incinerated. Moreover, biodegradable plastics were also not recyclable due to the presence of organic materials that would disrupt the recycling process.

Ravago then brought the participants for a tour of the facility and explained the various processes involved. First, the facility would receive sorted plastics from a materials recycling facility. The plastics then would be chopped into smaller pieces, cleaned, melted, and palletized before being sold to manufacturers to produce new products.
